It is not the first time I have entered a photography competition. I did win the last one I entered, which was many years ago and I cannot, for the life of me, remember what the event was called. What I do know is that I entered black and white prints from negs…. So for me, a long time ago.

I was suggested the Renaissance Photography Prize as a good place to start….. And looking a the website and entries I was not sure at all. At least there were no Hipstamatic pictures there. But looking at the previous winners I could see there were intelligent eyes looking at the entries, overall.

I also did not really see much by way of portraiture, but again, looking at previous winners, that was not an issue, either.

I have entered 3 images and seem to have started a movement in those following on from me! Quite funny to see other nudes, all of a sudden, and a couple of other portraits now.

I wait, with baited breath, to see what happens. I know my sister has entered an image or three, too, and we could have a stand-off.

Huh! That arrogance of me! I know, but hey, why bother to take part if one is not utterly convinced that one stands a fighting chance?

In a fit of insanity, recently, I decided it would be fun to take the children to Brighton for the day. In an effort to be a lovely mummy, the Pier, was my main objective.

I drive a Land Rover and every trip feels like a huge adventure. It was windy and very nippy, but the sun was shining as we lumbered down the M23.

By the time we reached Brighton it was ghastly weather, dark, grey and raining, the seagulls had had a better offer, and we were cold.

Despite all of this the children were thrilled, and ran off to get to the funfair.

The place was almost deserted, most of the rides were closed and finding something they both wanted to do started to get somewhat challenging.

I saw something, an image, that moved me and reached into my bag for my trusty Sony Cybershot. It was a triumphant moment. Both the kids got caught up in the images around us and we had a wonderful afternoon, moving through the different areas of the Pier, all taking pictures of the parts that we liked.

For me, I was most struck by the way the Tungsten lights showed so beautifully against the dark daylight. I also really enjoyed how the camera dealt with the impossibly low light levels in the gaming rooms. The images here are so surreal.

The day was exciting, stimulating and ultimately a great success and it was the darkness, the awful weather combined with a fabulous camera that made it so.

You may or may not know that I am an excellent portrait photographer.

You may or may not know that I am an excellent portrait photographer.

It is a skill that I put down for a while to build up Devotion. I now feel it is time to pick it up again. I have certain projects that interest me greatly and I wonder if you would be interested or able to take part;

I want to continue photographing women with scars. This does not exclusively mean breast cancer scars although the image here is as the result of a mastectomy. All scars are what I am intrigued by. I work discretely, in my house, away from assistants. The images are only shown in an exhibition with your permission and a print for you, the sitter, is absolutely part of the exchange between us. For many women, this work is a great experience and a lot of physical confidence can be built as the result if that is what is needed or lacking. Otherwise it is a wonderful way to pass a few hours, naked with me. My years as a body painter allow me to hold a very comfortable space.

If you are interested in working with me on this level please do email me and we can take it from there.

I photographed this man several years ago. I found his tattoo so staggeringly beautiful and utterly perfect in it’s execution. From the front he was wildly infibulated, piercings all over, indescribable amounts of them. But from the back it was a calm perfection and I was transfixed by the sensuality of form.

I am always looking for sitters for images. In return for your time, enthusiasm and patience I give you a print.

Current Projects: I am working on three projects at the moment. I am always looking for sitters for images. In return for your time, enthusiasm and patience I give you a print.

Beautiful Incisions is a work around women and scars, click on the blog about it to learn more.

The Table Cloth Series again focuses on women, naked, their skin, their physical form and their relationship with a table and a cloth.

The Profile is a work looking at the power inherent in a face though the view from the side. How this glance is seldom seen or registered in the media yet is tells so much, has such power and strength, timelessness and history.
